Biltons started in the early 1900s with making glazed tiles and fireplace conversions. Just before WW1 they also started with tea and coffee pots. In 1932 they stopped the tile production and started producing complete tableware. During WWII they closed down to return to full production in the 1960s. The heyday was in the 1970s, when they mainly sold millions of crockery. Many of them were mugs. But in the 80s things went less well and they had to make adjustments and the company was taken over again. In the nineties also takeover by Staffordshire tableware. The factory was eventually closed voluntarily in 1999.
