Mr van Elderen started a canning factory in 1919 under the name of Elderen and co in Aalst, the Netherlands. Originally this started with the production of, among other things, the agriculture of buckets, casting and sieves. During the beginning of the war, both his sons helped in the company that grew considerably. In 1953 the company was converted into an NV and the name was changed to van Elderens metal factory Brabantia. After this, the first part of the name was often omitted, creating the name Brabantia. This means Brabant (which is a Dutch area) in Latin. Around 1965, exports accounted for nearly a quarter of the total turnover and more and more factories were added at home and abroad.
