The Dutch wool federation was founded in 1920. The basis for this started earlier. Already at the turn of the century there were plans to join forces to stimulate the use and purchase of Dutch wool. At first, the wool is sold through auction, later they will sell directly. They then become a major player in all wool processing industries and also become the owner of a number of woolfactories. After the war, they also started retailing, with the idea of supplying sheep farmers with high-quality wool products. These were initially only sold in cafes, which sometimes resulted in literal battles with products that were limited available. The federation developed the mobile wool store which drove products to the countryside and which acted as a social meeting point. In the 1970s, international developments led to a large part of these developments being divested.
The wool federation ended in 2009 by the board. Derived woolfederations still exist in the Netherlands. They still take wool and sell livestock care articles.
